It is developed in 1911. by Edward Goucher of the United States Department of Agriculture. Its a broadleaf semi evergreen shrub with reddish branches, glossy, dark green leaves that turn purplish in autumn, and small lilac pink trumpet shaped flowers with bronze tinged calyx lobes. Abelia 'Edward Goucher' is very easily grown in average, medium moist, well drained
